Film review: X-Men: Apocalypse

May 31, 2016

Time to slap on the blue face paint and wipe out some humans.  The latest of the X-Men films is out and all our old friends are back, including some even older friends who are younger.  Wait, what?  No, this isn't the time travel one.  Anyhow, everyone's favourite mutant Cyclops makes a triumphant return to the big screen (yes, EVERYONE'S FAVOURITE) and brings some other famiiar faces in the biggest cast yet.  How did the film fare?  Controversy abounds within.

And unfortunately the raucous party was still thriving in the next room so that has a bit of impact on the recording.

TV review: Netflix’s Daredevil Season 2

May 24, 2016

A blind super-hero who uses his sonar sense to fight crime?  Awesome idea.  I can see why Batman is so popular.  Wait.. what?  Daredevil?  Ummm ok, that makes sense...

In this episode we discuss season 2 of the Daredevil series.  Are Netflix and Marvel still firing on all cylinders or does this season start to show cracks?

Note: we discuss the entire series at length (a lot of length sorry!) so beware of SPOILERS!!!

Book discussion: Aurora - Kim Stanley Robinson

May 19, 2016

TV shows, movies, board games, where are the bloody books?! Alright alright geez.

Aurora is the latest book by award winning author Kim Stanley Robinson which follows a generational space ship sent to colonise a distant planet.  Pfft, sounds easy right?  Weellll, maybe not.
How did we enjoy this book?  What does this book say about the destiny of humanity?  How many tranquillisers did we have to give Barbara to stop her yelling "spaceships" repeatedly?  (a lot)    Listen to this episode for answers to these questions and more!

Big SPOILER warnings.  No safety in this one I'm afraid.  Enter at your peril!

Episode 3 - Captain America: Civil War review

May 12, 2016
Who needs villains when the heroes are cantankerous and just can't wait to punch each other in the faces.  Captain America: Civil War is Marvel's follow up to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron is here and pretty much the entire Marvel cinematic universe has come to hang out.  Is it good?  Are you #teamcap or #teamironman?  Are you bitter and angry that Howard the Duck isn't one of the main characters?  A bunch of clowns discusses such matters in...

Episode 2 - Urban Fantasy. Dead or still alive?

May 10, 2016

And lo, there is another meeting of the great minds of our time.  Not here of course!  In the Weirdsphere we only have the usual pack of dimbulbs, this time discussing the suggestion that Urban Fantasy has had its day.  Does Urban Fantasy still have legs or is the spotlight moving elsewhere, and if so, where?  Is Leopardpunk the next big genre?
