March 12, 2018

Season one of Star Trek Discovery is over and the Klingons are now Klingoffs for another year.  How did the season end up?  Did it improve after a mixed start?  No idea.

Film review: Black Panther

February 22, 2018

Another day another superhero film.  These things are all just like one another.  Or are they?  Is Black Panther something new and different?  I think we need to talk...

Board game review: War of the Ring

January 19, 2018

A special 100% Australian edition of the Weirdsphere! Wait, can I hear everyone deleting the podcast?  hmm... annnyhow, special guest Colin visted the sunny shores of Britain and was held at gunpoint to play the massive board game War of the Ring, featuring all the fighty bits from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.  Did his free peoples (a bunch of tree hugging elves dwarves and human scum) defeat the noble progressive forces of Sauron?  If there's any decency in the world, let's hope not.

Ancient film review: The Keep

January 10, 2018

2017 is dead, long live 2018!  Let's start the new year off with something new and refreshing, Ian McKellan's finest film, The Keep.  This 1983 horror film by Michael Mann has a pretty awesome cast with McKellan, Gabriel Byrne, Scott Glenn and Jurgen Prochnow and has an acclaimed director.  It can't go wrong!  Or can it...

Film review: Justice League

December 15, 2017

In one of our bravest moments, the Weirdsphere crew ventured into the dark terrifying world of the hybrid Snyder/Whedon FrankenLeague.  After the... film that was Batman versus Superman, how does Justice League hold up?  Does Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg also have mothers named Martha?  Is Superman's CGI upper lip the most horrific nightmare seen on the big screen yet?  Answers within!

Stranger Things 2

November 14, 2017

A follow up season to a television series that matches the quality of the first?  Pretty unlikely but Stranger Things have happened.  Wow, sorry about that.  This throwback to the 80s has me channeling dad humour.

Film review: Thor Ragnarok

October 31, 2017

Marvel is back and this time with added Taika Waititi!  In arguably the first Marvel film to be comedy before action, Thor, the Hulk and pals team up for some zany hijinks to try avoid Ragnarok, the death of all things.  Yes, a comedy about Ragnarok.  It's so obvious now we think of it...

Ancient film reviews: Blair Witch (2016)

October 20, 2017

Remember that ground breaking film, The Blair Witch Project, that put the found footage film genre into the spotlight back in 1999?  Well, today's podcast isn't about that.  It's about the incredible 2016 sequel, Blair Witch.  Check it out.  It dropped the "the" and the "project".  Streamlined and ready to impress!  Did it impress?  I dunno, geez, lay off with the questions already.

Ancient film reviews: Lifeforce

September 26, 2017

The 80s are responsible for a lot of things, many of them, alarmingly dodgy.  Allow us to present exhibit A in the case against the 80s.  Lifeforce.  An alleged film about space vampires with Patrick Stewart's finest performance.  Watch it with awe.

Twin Peaks season 3 final thoughts

September 12, 2017

Twin Peaks season 3 has finished and as we expect from Mr Lynch, everything ended pretty much as we expected and all the loose ends were neatly tied up.  Yes, I'm sure that's what happened...

The worst robots ever

August 30, 2017

Everyone loves a good robot right?  Some of the highlights of science fiction have come from our electronic buddies, like that time R2D2 urinated oil everywhere in the prequels... err... ok, bad example.  Anyhoo, who cares about the good robots.  Let's talk about the really crap ones!

TV review: Netflix’s The Defenders

The culmination of Marvel's four Netflix series has finally arrived!  Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist all come together in this 8 episode series.  Did it meet the lofty expectations it the previous shows had earned?

Film review: Spider-Man: Homecoming

July 27, 2017

Finally another Spider-Man film!  After the dizzying heights of the Andrew Garfield movies, can added Marvel make Spidey watchable again?  His Civil War cameo suggests yes.  Let's see...

Board game review: Star Wars: Rebellion

July 18, 2017

Ever watch the original Star Wars trilogy and think "You rebel scum have no idea what you're doing!  I could do so much better".  Or perhaps you're shouting at the Emperor to shut up and stop goading Luke as you know that's not going to work.  Well, in the board game Star Wars: Rebellion you are in control instead of these idiots so maybe you can do a better job!

Board game review: Raptor

July 4, 2017

Jurassic Park really did a disservice to velociraptors.  They're not nasty or evil, they're just like any of us.  Tell me, if a bunch of scientists turned up and tried to steal your kids for "research" you'd tear them into small chunks of bloody meat wouldn't you?  This is where the board game Raptor comes in.  It's a 2 player assymetrical game of scientists versus raptors.  Do you like stealing children or mutilating uppity nerds?  Choose your side!

Twin Peaks : The Return episodes 1 - 4

June 6, 2017

See you in 25 years...

And 25 years later (ok maybe it's 26) Twin Peaks has returned!  We've done the epic rewatch of the original series and film to prepare and have now seen the first 4 pure Lynch directed episodes.  Is it possible for the series to come back weirder than ever?  Why yes.  Yes it is!  Can we make sense of it?  Of course!!!  Well... maybe parts of it.  Join us as we stumble our way through the Black Lodge.
